Move the slider. The orange waveform changes with its sample points; the blue reference stays fixed.
Try 8 Hz for aliasing, 10 Hz at the boundary, then 12 Hz and higher to compare display interpolation with ideal reconstruction.
Mathematical illustration, not equipment measurements. Input: a 5 Hz sine, unit amplitude, zero phase; a 1 s window. Real selection also depends on bandwidth and anti-alias filtering.
Explore signal analyzersStraight lines join adjacent samples. This display is not ideal band-limited reconstruction.
40 Hz gives 8 samples per cycle. Corners and missed peaks come from straight-line display, not aliasing here. Switch to ideal reconstruction to compare.
The input is sin(2π × 5t). Samples are taken at n/fs. Both endpoints are shown, so a 1 s plot has fs + 1 dots.
Ideal mode assumes an infinite uniform sample sequence and an ideal baseband low-pass reconstruction filter. The 1 s chart is a viewing window, not a finite-record reconstruction. Noise, quantization, clock jitter and real filters are omitted.
At 8 Hz, 5 Hz and an inverted 3 Hz sine give identical samples. At 10 Hz, zero phase gives all-zero samples. Above 10 Hz, ideal reconstruction matches the 5 Hz input.
