Overview

The PDT 300 handles drop testing of large products and packages, including returnable bulk containers, crated products and palletized goods. It accepts specimens up to 661 lbs (300 kg) and drop heights from 1 in (2.5 cm) to 96 in (244 cm), covering flat, edge and corner drops.

Like the rest of the line, it uses a welded steel drop carriage guided by precision bearing assemblies on a structural steel guide beam. An electric hoist raises and lowers the carriage so that heavy items can be handled safely and easily. During a drop the carriage is accelerated downward, allowing the test item to free fall; a spring-loaded pulley design helps pull the carriage away from the item as it drops.

The standard carriage holds test items up to 41.5 in (105 cm) deep front-to-back. Extended carriages expand this to 74 in (188 cm) for the XL and 118 in (300 cm) for the XXL, with rated loads of 300 kg, 300 kg and 227 kg (500 lbs) respectively. Foundation kits and steel baseplates are available for all carriage sizes, and the steel baseplate removes the need for a special concrete foundation. The handheld controller lets the operator move the carriage up and down, set the drop height, perform the drop and reset the platen. An edge and corner fixture enables controlled drop orientations. The design is factory-verified to perform highly accurate, flat-drop testing that exceeds industry standards such as ASTM D5276. The PDT 300 meets ASTM D5276 and bridges the gap between smaller precision testers and the heavier PDT 700.
