Overview

The Spider-NAS is a dedicated network storage device built by Crystal Instruments to deliver high-performance data recording for its hardware modules. It is compatible with the Spider-80X, Spider-81, Spider-80SG and Spider-80Ti front-ends, and its purpose is to stream the large volumes of data these front-ends produce straight to independent storage, sidestepping host-PC and network bandwidth limits. Storage media is a high-performance 2.5-inch removable solid-state drive, shipped with 250 GB and upgradable to 2 TB, with an option to attach a second drive for additional capacity. Data is recorded in the NTFS file format and can be transferred to a PC using Crystal Instruments EDM software, or the SSD can be physically removed and connected to another PC for archiving and offline analysis. For performance, the Spider-NAS provides eight high-speed data buses that interface with each compatible front-end, and each dedicated data port can reach a theoretical speed of 480 Mbit/s. In operation it stores data for all dynamic measurement channels simultaneously at a 256 kHz sampling rate, making it well suited to large tests with many channels, high sample rates and heavy data volumes. The chassis measures 35 x 243 x 177 mm and weighs 1.30 kg, drawing power from a 110 to 250 VAC input converted to 15 VDC output at a maximum of 3 A through a Lemo connector, so it deploys easily in test environments.
