EDM - Remote Condition Monitoring (RCM) is a Crystal Instruments software module for monitoring equipment and structures that are inaccessible to configure within a local network. Typical applications include monitoring vibrations during the transportation of equipment, monitoring bridges and structures close to railways or roadways, and monitoring vibrations caused by ground-mounted wind turbines. The type and intensity of these vibrations can cause problems ranging from damaged equipment during transport to structural damage on a bridge, so continuous monitoring with automatic alarms and notifications is the appropriate safeguard.
RCM extends the Dynamic Signal Analysis (DSA) module and integrates tightly with the Spider platform. Multiple Spider front-ends of any channel count can be deployed remotely and connected through a mobile wireless gateway using cellular data. Each Spider system is reached by using a static public IP address with a connected modem, ensuring connectivity from anywhere. The software simultaneously connects several such systems and provides updated results for every Spider front-end, with a live view of data from any system and the ability to download recordings from any or all front-ends for further analysis.
The Black Box mode of the Spider platform is central to remote monitoring: front-ends keep running independently regardless of their connection to the host software, so poor or absent cellular coverage does not interrupt monitoring. Users can define detailed limits for raw time or frequency signals and for statistical signals such as peak and RMS; user-configured events trigger rule-based recordings, and specific events can send email notifications to chosen recipients. A control panel provides batch start/stop operations and a data-usage indicator for managing traffic on metered wireless networks.
