Overview

Environmental and structural testing is aimed at customers who must verify product reliability and structural behavior under conditions close to real service. Crystal Instruments brings these tests onto a single platform: the Spider series of dynamic measurement instruments and vibration controllers as hardware, and EDM as the common software environment, so vibration, environmental and structural testing can share measurement channels, control algorithms and a data-management workflow.

For single-axis vibration, the service supports random, mixed mode (sine-on-random and random-on-random), swept sine, classic shock and time waveform replication, together with kurtosis control, multi-resolution spectrum analysis for random and the Fatigue Damage Spectrum. Multiple-axis vibration adds MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output), MESA (multi-exciter single-axis) and three-axis MEMA arrangements for specimens whose size or weight exceeds a single shaker and that need coordinated multi-point excitation. Electric-vehicle battery testing uses modular Spider hardware to replicate a battery's operating environment and to perform battery condition monitoring with automatic reactions.

Combining these capabilities with thermal chambers enables combined temperature, humidity and vibration testing for reliability and screening programs across aerospace, automotive, medical, commercial and independent test-lab applications. Parts with higher quality and safety demands can additionally be characterized through structural dynamics and modal work.

Modal and structural testing covers hammer impact, single-axis FRF, MIMO FRF, MIMO sine, operational modal testing and correlation analysis, with advanced and premium editions of EDM Modal software. The result is that a customer can first determine a structure's natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping within one platform, then design and run the vibration environmental test based on those measurements.
