Overview

The CI North Carolina Vibration Testing Lab in Kannapolis, NC (1548A Roger Dale Carter Boulevard) is one of Crystal Instruments' testing facilities. Its equipment includes single-axis shakers, multi-axis shakers and temperature/humidity/vibration chambers, so systems can be matched to products of different sizes and payloads.

The lab's large water-cooled electro-dynamic systems feature a 2500 x 2500 mm high-pressure monobase slip table with optional automatic armature centering and a motorized gearbox for shaker rotation, plus a 2500 mm square magnesium head expander. The water-cooled E-Series shaker delivers 196 kN sine peak force and 392 kN 6 ms shock force over 5-2200 Hz with a 2000 kg max static payload, and is designed for large payloads up to about 6000 kg (13,200 lb), suited to large electronic parts, connectors and mechanical assemblies.

Air-cooled systems cover smaller products. A small air-cooled system provides 5.88 kN sine peak force and a 200 kg max static payload, suited to small electronic parts, connectors and hand-held units; the medium-to-large air-cooled M5044A provides 49 kN sine and random rms force and a 1000 kg max static payload for medium electronic parts and flight and ground vehicle components.

For multi-axis work the lab offers MIMO and MESA systems. The air-cooled MIMO system performs simultaneous three-axis vibration testing that simulates real-world environments and satisfies MIL-STD-810G requirements, cutting test time by two-thirds, using Crystal Instruments' Spider vibration controller. The MESA (Multiple-Exciter Single-Axis) air-cooled system performs multiple-exciter single-axis vibration testing for medium-sized electronic parts and flight and ground vehicle components.

The Temperature, Humidity and Vibration (THV) system offers testing from -70 °C to 150 °C using Sentek Dynamics chambers. An AGREE chamber (5 °C/min) is combined with a 32 kN shaker and an 800 x 800 mm low-pressure slip table, applying temperature, humidity and vibration in one chamber with a single comprehensive report.
