The CI Los Angeles testing lab sits on Producer Lane in Huntington Beach, California, and is one of Crystal Instruments' reliability bases for electronics, aerospace and defense components. Its equipment spans the full range from HALT/HASS to vibration, temperature/humidity and space-environment testing, tied together by EDM VCS vibration control software, EDM Cloud online monitoring and reporting, and the Spider-81 vibration controller.
The HALT/HASS capability comes from two OVS chambers: the OVS 3.0 Typhoon and OVS 2.5 HALT test chambers, both rated from -100 C to +200 C with 60 C/min transition rates and up to 60 Grms six-DOF quasi-random repetitive shock, fitted with 30" x 30" tables and interior dimensions of 45"W x 45"D x 35"H, used to apply escalating thermal and vibration stress and expose weaknesses quickly.
Vibration is provided by two electro-dynamic shakers, an Unholtz Dickie 202 and a Sentek M6044A-PA266. The Unholtz Dickie 202 delivers 2200 lbf with a 2" stroke and 345 g shock capability from a 13" armature, with an optional AGREE chamber. The air-cooled Sentek M6044A offers 13218 lbf-pk sine, 13218 lbf-rms random and 39678 lbf-pk 6 ms shock force over a 5-2500 Hz useful range, with 78.7 in/s maximum velocity, 3 in pk-pk displacement and a 2200 lbm maximum static payload; on a bare armature it reaches 100 g sine and random and 300 g shock. These drive an HST1000M slip table (22046 lbm max payload, 5-1250 Hz, 39.4" x 39.4" with a 4" x 4" insert pattern) and an HER1000M head expander (5-1500 Hz, 39.4" diameter).
Environmental and space capability includes Thermotron SM-32C and Test Equity 1007H temperature/humidity chambers (both to 95 percent RH non-condensing, spanning -70 to +170 C and -73 to +170 C respectively), an Atlas UV chamber (UVA340, UVB313 and UVA351 fluorescent UV with condensation), Sigma 520-3, M26/45C3 and M100C-3 chambers, and the LAS 200 altitude (TVAC) chamber - a 26" cylinder by 26" tall, simulating altitudes up to 90 kft with an added hot/cold temperature component. A single product can thus go through HALT/HASS margin finding, vibration qualification and high-altitude thermal-vacuum testing in one lab.
