The PDT 700 is a precision drop tester built for large, heavy specimens up to 1,540 lbs (700 kg). Like the smaller PDT 300, it uses a welded steel drop carriage guided by precision bearing assemblies running on a structural steel guide beam. An electric hoist raises and lowers the carriage so that heavy test items can be moved safely and easily.
During a drop the carriage is pulled downward, letting the test item fall freely. As the carriage descends into slots below the impact surface, a hydraulic damper and elastomer strips at the bottom of the slots prevent the carriage from rebounding into the item, eliminating a secondary impact. A standard carriage accommodates specimens up to 79.5 in (202 cm) deep front-to-back, with a drop height range from 1 in (2.5 cm) to 72 in (183 cm). The machine can be installed with either a foundation kit or a steel baseplate that removes the need for a concrete foundation.
The handheld controller sets the drop height, moves the carriage up and down, and triggers the drop; a two-hand operation is required to start a drop sequence for operator safety. Every Lansmont drop tester is verified to a flatness accuracy within ±2 degrees before shipping, and an optional edge and corner fixture enables controlled drop orientations. The PDT 700 meets standards such as ASTM D5276 and sits between the PDT 300 and the quick-release QR 3000, offering repeatable, flat drop testing for specimens that are too large or heavy for a conventional drop tester.
