Overview

The SAVER 3D15 is the low-frequency, DC-capable member of Lansmont's SAVER field-recorder family. It is intended for measurement applications that require DC response, meaning it can faithfully capture long-duration, constant-acceleration time histories rather than losing low-frequency content. To achieve this it uses MEMS triaxial accelerometers with DC response measurement capability, available in 5, 10, 20 and 50 g full-scale ranges, with a 3 dB frequency response that extends from DC up to the filter setting.

Amusement-park rides, aerospace flight applications, rail-car coupling impacts and vehicle crash testing all contain low-frequency responses with long-duration, constant-acceleration profiles, which is exactly where the 3D15 is used. The instrument is a self-powered, integrated unit that records full waveforms at 16-bit resolution and 50–5000 samples per second, with a 4-pole low-pass Butterworth anti-alias filter (10–500 Hz cut-off) plus built-in temperature and humidity sensors.

Power comes from user-replaceable 9V lithium or alkaline batteries, giving up to 15 days of continuous field operation. The recorder samples continuously and writes to flash memory only when a user-defined trigger threshold is exceeded, with user-defined pre-trigger recording and time-triggered recording at selectable wake-up intervals. Every acceleration time history and temperature/humidity reading is timestamped.

Collected data can be imported into SaverXware to derive drop height, impacts, vehicle motion, vibration and temperature/humidity cycles. For tasks that need both true DC low-frequency response and long unattended deployment, the 3D15 complements the higher-sampling-rate models in the same family.
