Overview

The PDT 80M is Lansmont's low-cost precision drop tester. It consists of a drop-leaf assembly housed in a cast aluminum structure, balancing accuracy with cost for repeat drop testing of small to medium packages and products.

The drop-leaf housing is supported by a 3 in (76 mm) diameter chrome-plated steel guide rod mounted to a 0.5 in (13 mm) thick steel base plate. An operator manually adjusts the drop height by moving the housing up or down as needed and locking it in place; a counterbalance assembly makes changing heights very easy. The pre-drilled guide rod provides stepped positions: 1 in (25 mm) increments from 12 to 36 in (305-915 mm), 2 in (50.8 mm) increments from 36 to 42 in (915-1070 mm), and 6 in (152 mm) increments from 35 to 71 in (889-1800 mm).

A high-velocity pneumatic cylinder, a precision cam design and a unique brake system produce extremely accurate flat-drop testing that exceeds industry standards such as ASTM D5276. A drop test is safely and efficiently initiated using a footswitch, and both the power switch and power indicator sit on the side of the drop-leaf housing for easy operator access.

With the standard platen the machine takes specimens up to 177 lbs (80 kg) and 24 in (610 mm) deep; the extended platen handles 150 lbs (68 kg) and 36 in (915 mm). Options include an edge and corner fixture, extended platen, slotted and oversized bases, and Test Partner data acquisition. The PDT 80M meets ASTM D5276 and serves as an economical entry point into Lansmont's drop tester range.
