Overview

The SAVER 9XGPS is an enhanced version of the SAVER 9X30 field recorder, adding a built-in GPS module so that position and vehicle-speed data are embedded directly into every captured file. Each acceleration record can therefore be tied to a specific route segment and moment in time.

Built into a self-powered housing, the instrument contains an internal triaxial piezoelectric accelerometer and can accept up to six external accelerometer inputs, for a total of nine dynamic channels. Temperature, humidity and atmospheric-pressure sensors are included, along with built-in signal conditioning for every channel. Recording is full-waveform at 16-bit resolution and up to 10,000 samples per second, with a 4-pole low-pass Butterworth anti-alias filter (10–500 Hz cut-off) and a 3 dB response starting at 0.4 Hz. Full-scale ranges of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 g are selectable.

The recorder samples continuously and writes to flash memory only when a user-defined trigger threshold is exceeded, with user-defined pre-trigger recording to preserve the moments before an event. Time-triggered recording at selectable wake-up intervals is also supported. Power comes from user-replaceable 9V lithium or alkaline batteries; with lithium cells the unit tracks vehicle movement for about 100 hours, and GPS shuts off automatically when the instrument is stationary.

All acceleration time histories and temperature/humidity readings carry timestamps. Data can be analyzed in SaverXware to derive drop height, impacts, vehicle motion, vibration, temperature and humidity cycles, making the 9XGPS suited to transport route characterization, supply-chain damage investigation and Field-to-Lab test-specification development.
