Overview

Dynamic measurement and analysis is the core capability set delivered by Crystal Instruments hardware and EDM software, running on the Spider-80X dynamic measurement and vibration control system as well as the CoCo handheld platform. It acquires, records and processes dynamic and static signals from a range of sensors for structural characterization and machinery condition assessment.

For time waveform recording, the system displays and records raw time data from many sensor types; the Spider-80X samples up to 102.4 kHz, and CoCo supports 8 channels simultaneously at 102.4 kHz with real-time spectral bandwidth up to 46 kHz. Frequency response function (FRF) analysis uses FFT with broadband excitation such as white or pink noise, or triggered transient averaging, to compute input-output behavior with phase and coherence, a key way dynamic signal analysis characterizes physical systems.

For noise and rotating machinery the system provides acoustic analysis (high channel counts, high sampling rates, portability), octave analysis and sound level meters (octave filters per ANSI S1.11 and IEC 61260), and order tracking, which presents data against shaft orders and is used for rotating machinery whose speed varies over time. Shock response spectrum (SRS) analysis computes SRS for all channels using maxi-max, maximum negative and maximum positive techniques with a reference profile. Other capabilities include real-time digital filters (designed graphically and downloaded to the front-end), automated limit testing (pass/fail on time or frequency signals in PC-tethered or Black Box mode), sine reduction (synchronizing the DSA to a vibration control system), and remote condition monitoring of bridges, railway-side structures and windmills.
